AJC Berkshires is proud to now have the third generation participating in national shows and sales. Adam and Al started AJC Berkshires and along with many other Conover family members, enjoy the wonderful opportunities that come along with exhibiting livestock.

Annually, we participate in the Iowa State Fair and National Barrow Show, and consider other options as our schedules allow. There is a rich tradition for our family to raise and sell Berkshire hogs and in 2026, Al and Adam celebrated 39 consecutive years exhibiting Berkshires at the Iowa State Fair.
As we align our calendars for 2027, we look forward to showcasing our breeding program at the Iowa State Fair and National Barrow Show. Please see below for a list of our Berkshire and Yorkshire consignments at the 2026 National Barrow Show.

2026 National Barrow Show Entries

We brought twenty-four hogs to the 2026 National Barrow Show Open Shows September 13-14 in Austin, MN. The AJC Berkshires entries included four open gilts, four boars, six bred gilts, and one junior yearling sow. AJC Berkshires also had a truckload entry. AJYC Yorkshires brought three open gilts. In total, we exhibited twenty-one Berkshires and three Yorkshires. The Berkshires are sired by AJC4 Diamond Lad 2-3 and BA4 Machine 5-2.

This boar was selected at ear notching as the girl’s favorite. He is tailor-made for those seeking a junior herd sire that offers added extension, frame, lateness of maturity and high libido attitude. All four of the boars offered were strategically selected as our only Berkshire boars sold at public auction in 2026.

This boar is the service sire of the three bred gilts we are offering at this year’s National Barrow Show. His dam has earned her position as the current leading mature sow in our program and has proven herself again by raising five entries in this current string. “26-3” himself offers more stoutness and dimension in an ideal breed character package.

The 26 litter will have quite a presence in Austin with five littermates to show and sell. This boar represents a blend of his two littermate brothers. He has always been a “no holes” boar for structure, ideal in his muscularity for longevity and the type of maturity pattern that has allowed him get more impressive as the summer has progressed.

28-1 is a grandson of "King" who is the product of nearly 40 years of passionate Berkshire breeding. Through years of diligent testing, King's data is as progressive as we have generated in recent times. Additionally, this big outlined son of “Dimond Lad 2-3” traces back to “King’s” dam “21-11” the most powerful and influential currently in the AJC program three times.

Stemming from one of our foundation sows “37-9”, you will see this litter represented in five entries at the National Barrow Show as well as a littermate Lydia showed and sold at the Iowa State Fair. “26-7” is Lydia's "Mia 3" and we don't really know how she got stuck on the Mia name but every Berkshire gilt she shows in 2026 is Mia. Like her sire and damn the structural integrity on this young female has been impeccable throughout the summer and she represents the broodiness and femininity we strive for in our program.

26-8 is Lillie's "Ariel" following a birthday theme. This final entry of the 26 litter, like her littermate sister, has been a pig crop favorite all summer and at the conclusion of the 2026 National Barrow Show we will have sold every November and December Berkshire gilt in this pig crop. We believe both of these 26 litter gilts to have the capability to make an impact as fault free breeding pieces in other’s programs.

28-6 is a granddaughter of "King" who is the product of 100% Natural service. This pedigree is proven and progressive. 28-6 has a littermate boar selling in our offering as well. Her dam, 11-11 was selected as a highly anticipated replacement gilt out of last year’s late fall pig crop and offers a 113.1 TSI and 100.0 SPI.

This April Fool's born gilt is no joke. The litter was bred deliberately to support the opportunity to collect carcass data through the National Barrow Show Truckload Contest. This female was a favorite from day one and will represent the "Machine" line in our breeding stock line-up.

Pulled from the keeper pen to uphold our promise of having an impressive set of breds at National Barrow Show. “23-14” combines the performance, design, added substance and broodiness that we have found hard to combine in one package.

This June 2025 gilt was meant for Barrow Show so we intentionally waited and bred her to be sold as a bred gilt for 2026. 27-13 is growthy and sound and appears to be full of pig. Life got in the way last year and her dam did not farrow until June taking this gilt out of the running for being part of the 2025 NBS Truckload. Her dam, AJC4 Hustle Belle 23-10, farrowed this litter of 15 and then sold as a bred junior yearling sow at the 2025 NBS.

​27-13 carries the June 6th natural service of AJC4 Diamond Lad 2-3.

​This female is a double bred JBM2 Machine 30- 1 who was the 2024 NBS Premier Sire. She is also the daughter of the 2025 NBS Premier Sire, BA4 Machine 5-2.

Our final June 2025 born gilt that was destined for National Barrow Show. Brought on slow, this gilt was one of 6 gilts retained in our program. 27-15 was bred and settled in the heat of the summer. She is long sided, extended and has plenty of flexible in her build.

​The dam of the 27 litter, “Hustle Belle23-10” farrowed this litter of 15 unassisted in a crate free pen and settled into her mothering duties raising 12 of the 15 before being bred back as a 2025 National Barrow Show junior yearly bred sow entry.

27-15 carries the July 7th natural service of AJC4 Diamond Lad 2-3.

The dam of this pair of littermate junior sows sold at the 2025 National Barrow Show for $1,150 to Barry Horsley of Missouri. This “16” litter consisted of 10 born and weaned 10 in April 2025. 16-5 was intentionally retained to produce the 2026 National Barrow Show truckload entry, she farrowed on April 1st producing our litter 31. She had 10, 9 born alive and weaned 8 with a 125 lb. weaning weight. Having an ALL gilt litter you will see three offspring in Austin, MN.

The natural service sire has the same dam as "King." This is a boar we truly believe in that is the sire of all of the 2026 hogs.

Like her littermate sister “16-6” was retained with the intention of raising our 2026 National Barrow Show truckload entry.  The girls were in charge of farrowing this sow and called Papa Al when 16-6 finished to let him know he had his truckload! 16-6 farrowed on March 27th producing our litter 30. She had 13 born and weaned 12 with a 185 lb. weaning weight. This litter represents every barrow in the 2026 truckload entry.

The natural service sire is again a favorite of our program, AJC4 Diamond Lad 2-3. He is also the sire of her litter 30 and every Berkshire litter born in 2026.

AJC Berkshires Purebred Truckload​

Truckloads are an adventure! With data collection in mind, this is a favorite contest for Al and Adam who annually strive to compete in this division. Raising and keeping a uniform truckload together is an exhilarating challenge. If you are not familiar with the contest, it is evaluated by the quality and consistency of the six hogs brought into the ring as a group. Of the six, at least three must be barrows.

There is a unique blend of sires in her pedigree that individually made a national impact as maternal leaders, performance hogs and power hogs alike. In 2025, two littermates to the dam of this female were sold at the CPS Summer Type Conference and were purchased by Doug Wehrbein of NE. Additionally, another littermate to the dam, 5-7, sold at the 2025 NBS to Randy Schroht of MN.
